Visitor Centre Meteoria Söderfjärden

Meteoria Söderfjärden is a unique visitor centre in the middle of the most beautiful impact crater in Finland

• An advanced exhibition telling a long story of at least 520 million years of Söderfjärden – from impact to an agricultural and Natura 2000 area of today
• A well-equipped astronomical observatory with a telescope for studies of celestial bodies millions of light years out into the universe
• An exhibition with impact animations, meteorites and crater stones from all over the world
• An exhibition with old farming machinery and tools
• An energy cellar – own production of renewable energy: solar and wind - solar panels and a windmill
• A bird-watching tower in the middle of the most important resting area for cranes in Finland
• A model of the crater and a falling asteroid in a scale of 1:500
• TellusTimeLine, a balance beam for a long journey from the formation of Earth 4,567 million years ago until the present - Big Bang is 13,800 million years before today
• A model of our solar system in the scale 1: 2,000 000 000 – always accessible at Söderfjärden

The Meteoria is managed by Sundom bygdeförening (voluntary association of the village), in cooperation with the Astronomical Society of Vaasa Andromeda, which operates and is in charge of the observatory.
